Xiaomi Teases Phone With 48-Megapixel Camera, Launching In January

The Chinese Smartphone manufacturer is about to join the camera battle and want to take it to the next level. The company is looking to launch a new smartphone with a 48-megapixel camera sensor. This new smartphone is expected to be introduced in January. Xiaomi president Lin Bin has shared a photo on Weibo confirming about this new feature. Lin didn’t share much about the phone.

At the Qualcomm summit in October, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain had said that the company will launch a new smartphone with Snapdragon 675 processor next year and this new SoC supports up to a 48-megapixel sensor as well. Xiaomi could end the race having with the world’s first smartphone with a 48-megapixel camera.

Moving to the news, Lin Bin posted an image on Weibo showing only a portion of the upcoming smartphone. The photo confirms that the 48-megapixel is the rear camera of the smartphone. In the post, he also includes that he has been testing it since a few weeks and that the smartphone will release in January.

The Sony IMX586 is a 48-megapixel quad Bayer sensor that was launched in July. It is 1/2″ large sensor and has so many pixels 0.8-micron pixels. The other camera option is the Samsung Bright GM1 48-megapixel sensor from October. It also has 0.8-micron pixels. Recent, Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a 40-megapixel sensor.
