Qualcomm Announces The Snapdragon 855 processor with 5G support

Qualcomm has announced its new processor, Snapdragon 855, Qualcomm’s new flagship processor for mobile phones. The company has announced it at its Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii USA.

Qualcomm in this same way announced Snapdragon 845 at the same tech summit last year. Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor will carry a more conventional branding and it is not called Snapdragon 8150 as previously rumoured.

The upcoming flagship processor will be manufactured on a 7nm process. The processor also be 5G ready thanks to being compatible with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 modem. Qualcomm said this new platform support “multi-gigabit” download speeds on 5G networks. Qualcomm will give more info on the new Snapdragon 855 processor during the second day of the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018.

The company states that the new processor features their fourth-generation, multi-core AI engine with up to 3 times the AI performance compared to Snapdragon 845. The new SoC also features the world’s first Computer Vision Image Signal Processor (CV-ISP) to deliver new photo and video capture features. The company has also unveiled Snapdragon Elite Gaming, a set of features in the mobile platform to enhance the mobile gaming experiences.
